Toxic Footprints Europe Dashboard

Emissions, Petrochemicals, Plastic, Transparency & Traceability, Equity

Toxic Footprints Europe shows how investors are exposed to petrochemical facilities and their toxic releases in three European countries – Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. Combined, these three countries contain what is known as the trilateral chemical region, an area consisting of Flanders (Belgium), North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), and the whole of the Netherlands – proclaimed as the heart of the EU chemical industry. The dashboards show the largest investors in the most toxic publicly traded petrochemical companies and facilities in the region and which toxic chemicals pose the largest risk to human and environmental health. The results are split into two dashboards, as per below:

  1. The first dashboard shows a list of the top toxic polluters and their investors;
  2. The second dashboard provides more detail on the facilities and locations that are linked to these investors.
  3. The dashboards contain toxic release data from 2010 to 2021, the latest year for which data is available.
