The goal of the Plastic Programme is to align capital markets with the sustainable management of plastic. For the plastics sector fuels are consumed in two ways: as energy in the petrochemical facilities and also as a feedstock – i.e. a material input which is transformed in the chemical process. Presently, the plastic producers and packaging companies are detached from the costs of environmental damage or recovery. Plastics Tracker seeks to change this by identifying ‘choke points’ within the plastics value chain by stemming the flow of environmentally damaging plastic products that are creating pollutants, waste and health issues and shift the industry towards sustainable production through the redirection of investment flows towards sustainable solutions.
