The chemical industry, which accounts for up to 6% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, is a key player in the transition to a net-zero economy. However, it faces sector-specific challenges such as long asset lives, high process emissions, and complex global supply chains.

This report benchmarks the climate transition performance of eight of the world’s top chemical companies: BASF, Bayer, Dow, Incitec Pivot, Air Liquide, LyondellBasell, SABIC, and Toray Industries. It evaluates them across emissions performance, value chain engagement, governance and remuneration, capital allocation, and policy advocacy. The goal is to provide financial institutions with a clear picture of these companies’ transition readiness and their potential climate-related risks and opportunities.
