Planet Tracker at COP31: Mobilising finance for ocean-climate action
9-20 November 2026 | Antalya, Türkiye
Planet Tracker will be participating in COP31 in Antalya, joining scientists, policymakers and financial institutions to explore how finance can support climate adaptation and protect ocean ecosystems.
As part of the official UNFCCC side events programme, Planet Tracker will contribute to a discussion on translating ocean science into practical climate action, with a particular focus on mobilising investment to help the seafood industry adapt to climate change.
Our COP31 side event
Tuesday 17 November | 18:30-20:00 |Ocean-Climate-Society: Delivering Action for Adaptation, Mitigation, Finance & Capacity Building
Location: Side Event Room 6 – KATİP ÇELEBİ, Blue Zone
Climate change is increasingly affecting ocean ecosystems and coastal communities, with implications for the ocean’s ability to support adaptation and mitigation.
This session will explore how science, finance and governance can accelerate ocean-climate action, from protecting seabed carbon stores and responding to polar ice loss to developing regenerative blue economies and expanding private investment in ocean conservation.
François Mosnier, Head of Nature at Planet Tracker, will discuss how finance can support adaptation investment in the seafood industry and who should bear the costs of making ocean supply chains more resilient to climate change.
The event will also examine opportunities to integrate ocean-related measures into national climate strategies and UNFCCC processes.
Speakers include:
- Prof. Callum Roberts, Convex Seascape Survey – Estimating human impacts on seabed carbon stores
- Prof. Michael Meredith, British Antarctic Survey and POGO – The global reach of polar ice loss
- Dr Atsushi Watanabe, Ocean Policy Research Institute, Sasakawa Peace Foundation – Regenerative and circular blue economy
- Dr Olivia Rendon, Plymouth Marine Laboratory – Mobilising private finance for blue carbon
- François Mosnier, Planet Tracker – Mobilising finance for climate adaptation in the seafood industry
The session will conclude with an audience Q&A exploring opportunities for collaboration across science, policy and finance.
Co-organisers: Blue Marine Foundation, Investor Watch (representing Planet Tracker), Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO), Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) and Sasakawa Peace Foundation (OPRI-SPF).
